The media portrays an image that females feel they must live up to. The image of being tall and thin is seen on everything from magazines to television sets. Most of those body types are not realistic and today plastic surgery has become as common as a root canal. It has become almost impossible to switch on a TV or to flip open a magazine and not find a female who has not been nipped or tucked. “Cosmetic makers have sold “hope in a jar,” creams and potions that promise youth, beauty, sex appeal, and even love for the women who use them.” (Postrel, 2007, p125) Advertisements for beauty products are altered and air brushed by computers. The individual displayed in the picture is completely made over by makeup and other products. “Every girl deserves to feel beautiful just the way she is” (Postrel, 2007, p125) and the media should not determine how any female should look or feel.
